Cara Ober combines culturally mediated imagery from children’s schoolbooks, home décor, and historical texts to explore notions of authenticity, appropriation, personal identity, and vocabulary. Based in Baltimore, Ober is commercially represented by Civilian Art Projects in Washington, DC and has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows in New York, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. Cara Ober earned an MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2005 and a Best of Baltimore Award from Baltimore Magazine in 2009. When she’s not painting, Cara teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art and writes art reviews for The Urbanite Magazine, ARTnews, and publishes her own award-winning local art blog, BmoreArt.
