Matts Leiderstam (b 1956, Gothenburg Sweden) uses his personal visual experiences of historical paintings, which he detaches from their normative context within collections or archives and investigates from a contemporary point of view. His method is simultaneously the artist’s and the scholar’s and he lets these attitudes mix and affect one another. Leiderstam has exhibited at several institutions and galleries worldwide – selected resent mayor solo presentations: Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe (2007), DCA, Dundee (2005), Grazer Kunstverein, Graz (2010), Kunsthalle Düsseldorf Graz (2010), Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz (2006) and Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall (2005). Leiderstam lives and works in Stockholm Sweden.
